What is the bloom in a chemex?

The “bloom” is the initial wetting of coffee grounds to release trapped gases.

 

Why is the bloom essential?

It sets the stage for optimal extraction and flavor development.


How long should your coffee bloom for?

Let the coffee bloom for around 30 seconds, allowing gases to escape.

 

What's the Science behind blooming?

The gas that is being released during blooming is Carbon dioxide. This is why you see small bubbles coming up.

Does proper blooming Impact the flavor?

Proper blooming leads to a cleaner, more vibrant cup.

How to begin the blooming process:

Pour water evenly over coffee grounds in a circular motion, ensuring all coffee grounds are saturated.
